Doreen Guma, MA, FACHE: Specializes in strategic planning, target and goal setting. Doreen is committed to fostering success for our clients.Utilizing strategic planning, she provides them with resources and tools so they stand out from their competition and realize their goals for success. With the creative team she assures their message is communicated to reach their target market.Doreen works with clients as part of their team to create a marketing plan that will be productive and cost-effective. Doreen has experience performing marketing and outreach, strategic planning, risk management, and quality improvement. Doreen has coordinated many large events in her career and has developed and organized speakers bureaus, employee incentive and employee safety programs. Doreen manages and directs D. James Marketing's advertising, marketing, and event planning services, supervises and coordinates the research and development of all written works including media kits, target-specific information sheets, and direct mailing campaigns and newsletters. She coordinates and manages trade show display designs and production to appropriately convey the client’s business goals and objectives. Doreen has extensive experience in the healthcare industry. She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Management, a Master of Arts in Business and Policy Studies, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). Doreen is a Board Member of the Alzheimer's Association Long Island Chapter and Board Member and Recording Secretary for Decision Women in Commerce and the Professions. In her 19 year healthcare career Doreen held the position of Director of Quality Improvement, Risk Manager, Director of Medical Records, and HIPPA Privacy Officer. She was responsible for identifying and assisting with facility regulatory compliance (NYSDOH and JCAHO), writing policies, performing contract reviews, practitioner and licensed staff credentialing and reappointment, bylaws, incident/complaint investigation and response to clients, establishing a medical records department and patient tracking databases, setting up new facility programs, and supervising a medical staff office and continuing medical education programs. She Chaired the Quality Improvement Committee, Environment of Care Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Ethics Committee, coordinated an Institutional Review Board, was a member of the Workers Compensation Committee, and attended medical staff committees and other facility committees. Doreen performed risk management oversight, facilitated quality improvement initiatives, identified targets and set goals to facilitate positive outcomes, performed benchmarking functions, developed speakers bureaus, authored and designed newsletters, performed purchasing functions and contract negotiations, developed client and staff satisfaction surveys and motivation/incentive programs, spearheaded new department and program development, budget preparation, grant writing, staff recruitment, and was coordinator and chair of many committees, events and fundraisers. Doreen has written legislation for color coding standardization that is pending approval in New YorkState. Doreen is the recipient of Island Peer Review Organization's (IPRO) Outstanding Service to the Health Care Community Award, has achieved Board Certification as a Healthcare Executive as a Fellow of the AmericanCollege of Healthcare Executives, and is a member of the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM).
James Guma, Promotional Products Specialist and Director of Operations: Jim has been involved in the promotional industry for over 20 years. Jim has extensive knowledge in the field and coordinates our personalized promotional products and personalized clothing and uniform division. Research and expertise assure that our clients are offered the best product alternatives within their budget. Jim insures on-time delivery to meet the needs of our clients. He embarks on all projects through the eyes of the consumer utilizing tried and true methods to create your organization's success. Jim is a retired New York City Police Sergeant and a 20 year veteran volunteer firefighter. He has extensive management operations training, law enforcement and human relations experience.
Thomas H. Curran: has had a long and heralded career in the field of marketing, branding and corporate communications. With over 28 years of experience, Tom has been responsible for the corporate identity, branding, sales literature and corporate brand positioning for numerous Fortune 500 companies. He has a strong track record of direct, measurable successes for his clients including Edward Ehrbar, Inc., Intelli-Tec Security Services, Globecomm Systems International, Dynamic Laboratories and Quantum Medical Imaging. Tom’s business philosophy is simple: to provide clients with sound and effective marketing solutions and visually impactful creative graphic design that will stop the viewer to take a look. Leta Maler, Web Design and Development: Leta has a extensive background in sales, marketing and design. She began her career teaching high school art but soon started her own design firm. As the internet became an integral entity, she became intrigued by the marketing possiblities of the web. Leta has now been designing and developing web sites since the late 1990's with an emphasis on timeless, clean design and user friendly sites.
Ilene Corina: Ilene Corina is a nationally recognized advocate for patient safety. She is the president and founder of PULSE New York, a grassroots patient safety advocacy group that was formed in 1997. She has run support groups for survivors of medical injuries and develops patient safety programs for medical professionals and consumers of healthcare. As president of PULSE, Ms. Corina was instrumental in getting New YorkState lawmakers to pass the landmark legislation, Patient Health Information and Quality Improvement Act of 2000. Her work was honored by Long Island’s Channel 12 News, and she was named Long Island’s Person Who Made a Difference in 2000. A board member of the National Patient Safety Foundation, Ms. Corina co-chaired the Patient and Family Advisory Council from 2002-2006. In 2002, she spearheaded the first Patient Safety Awareness Week that shed light on the importance of partnerships between patients and health care professionals to reduce medical errors. A popular lecturer, Ms. Corina speaks regularly at medical conferences, hospitals and health care organizations throughout the country. She discusses the patient’s role in patient safety and the changing culture to form partnerships to improve outcomes. She also helps health care professionals work with patients and their families after a medical injury or death has occurred and has developed curriculum on disclosure of medical errors which has been used at medical conferences and in resident training. She does work with the New York City Health and Hospital Corporation staff and their Community Advisory Boards. Ms. Corina has produced and directed numerous videos and audios for patient safety education. She co-hosted and directed a series on enhancing patient safety for a local Long Island radio station. She also developed, with a group of youth, the first teen patient safety program for young people. She worked as a researcher at the Veteran’s AffairsMedicalCenter in Northport, Long Island from 2002-2004. While there, she developed the Long Island Patient Safety Coalition that brought together medical professionals for the purpose of sharing best-practice information. Ms. Corina is a board member of the Joint Commission and served on the commission’s Health Literacy Public Policy Roundtable and serves on the Accreditation Committee and Future Value of Accreditation Work Group. She was the winner of the 2006 Institute of Safe Medication Practices Cheers Award and was declared a Woman of Achievement by Long Island Press in 2007. Ms. Corina has appeared as a patient-safety expert on CNN, Fox News, and other television and radio news shows. She has been interviewed by newspapers and magazines including: Child Magazine, Health Magazine, Long Island Newsday, New York Daily News, Washington Post, American Medical News, and Modern Healthcare. Her work has been published by the American Journal of Nursing and Perioperative Nursing Clinics. She has authored a book “Teaching Patient Safety, An Educators’ Guide” and co-authored “Family Centered Patient Advocacy, A Training Manual.” She has developed the first training program focused on Family Centered Patient Advocacy which helps families become part for the healthcare team.
